This is the tale of the final weeks of the Hermetic city covenant of Eboris. The story is set at a time where the modern European bureaucracy was born: in Paris, 1295, under the reign of king Philip IV, the fair, the iron king. As might be expected, this is a story of intrigue, deceit, plotting, scheming and terrible peril. But it is also a story of ineptitude, red tape and disclaimers.

Founded in the early 1200s by the now so very venerable Mathieus of Constantinople, follower of Jerbiton, as way for him do deal with his grief after the sacking of Constantinople in 1204, Eboris is now the bustling central hub for many of the practical matters of the Order of Hermes in the Normandy tribunal. Indeed, Mathieus is the Praeco of the Tribunal.

Centrally placed at Rue de la Tabletterie, near the northern bank of the Seine river, the small stone mansion that makes out the Covenant of Eboris functions as an open house to many a Hermetic traveller in Paris. In particular, it is the home of the Sweated Shillings, a group of young Jerbiton magi under the tutelage of Mathieus. They function as a sort of Hermetic intelligence service for the Magi in Normandy Tribunal, here in the city of the King.

== Signing Up For Games ==

We have tried all manner of approaches, and last year we trialled elaborate online sign ups. The problem is most of you are too busy to sign up for a game until the day, and then you might change your mind or we might have mixed up sheets.

So relax. You sign up for games on the day. We shall have sign up sheets available in the morning for each days games, and if you want to play in one just put your name down. There will be spaces in games, there always are, and if you want to play in a very popular game and it's full just ask nicely and maybe the Storyguide will run it again in a later slot.

Take it easy. Just show up, play games, have fun :)

There is one exception - the Freeforms. It is vital that you sign up for these in advance via the [[mailing list]], and we strongly advise you to play it as it is the first game, the icebreaker and will introduce you to other attendees. We especially recommend you play it if you are new to roleplaying, Ars Magica, games conventions or Grand Tribunal.

There will be a good selection of boardgames available in the comfortable Vic Dymock suite for delegates to play. If there is a particular game you would like to try do message [[CJ]] and ask him to bring it along. I will ensure that every Atlas Games boardgame I own (most of them) is present, and I will probably bring along my Cthulhu Wars (Petersen Games) set as well just because I like to see it get some usage _ i only get to play it once otr twice a week.

Saturday morning at Grand Tribunal has always featured a medieval freeform game set in the world of Ars Magica. All deleagtes are invited to take part, even if you have never played a freeform or LARP before. This is a non-contact event (no hitting each other with foam swords!) in which you take on the role of a character and dress up and scheme, intrigue and charm your way to success, solving puzzles and generally roleplaying your heart out. While we welcome costume, if you can't manage it someone always has a spare tunic or two. And if you really don't want to play, we won't make you!

In which the Witches and other Guernsey folk turn a faerie invasion into part of the stuff of island legend.

The year is 1372. Things have been fairly quiet of late, with just a few pirate raids. The last major upset was in 1340 when the Black Death was still taking victims and the French Capetian navy went exploring the bottom of the sea.

Maybe the witches defend themselves well. Could it be that the Order of Hermes did not overlook the islands, although records are blank? Were the prayers of the monks answered? And will the disposessed Norman seigneur find a fortune?

Following Alexander III's reputedly drunken plummet off a cliff on the way to a fornicative tryst, several years of negotiations between Scotland, Norway and England, have finally conlcuded. The Maid of Norway, King Erik Magnusson's only daugter, last living heir to the Scottish throne is being shipped from the Royal Håkonshallen in Bergen to Scotland to marry the son of Edward Longshanks, heir to the throne of England.

The premoniscient player characters all have seen bad omens concerning this trip, and have joined the voyage from Yarmouth You are about to leave Bergen for the Orkney's, where final arrangements for the betrothal and wedding will occur.

The official story is Margrete took ill during the late autumn crossing, and died within days after reaching The Orkenys. Ten years after this voyage, a grey haired German woman turned up in Bergen with her husband claiming to be Maid Margrete. Failing to prove her story, she was burned at the stake and her husband decaptiated. But what REALLY happened?

Medieval Loveboat? Amistad? Mutiny on the Bounty? Who knows? There WILL be realtionshipping, that much seems certain.

A group of young magi set out to investigate rumours of old ruins and mysterious disappearances than may indicate mystical places and therefore power.
A mystery, intrigue and Magic in Mythic Europe for experienced fans and those new to Ars Magic alike.

This is a traditional tabletop scenario for 3-6 magi. Run length if full is probably around 3 hours. It was originally written for Gencon UK (4 hours slots) but will manage in less. I cannot remember which of the tabletop scenario's have been to Grand Tribunal before, this is just the one i could lay my hands on a printout of in the covenant stores!

The Hazel Grove

A fistful of misfit magi follow up a rumour about disappearances in a stand of hazel trees. A 2-3 hour adventure that aims to resolve an individual problem of each character, with each having a skill needed by the party. There will be 5 core characters and one auxiliary (but some can be NPCs). This story would be a good start to a campaign.

Has been blind for four years and is partly dependent on his companion, Brynna/Brennan, and his friendship with the Redcap Beryl ex Mercere. Nathaniel has been snubbed and overlooked in the last two social seasons by the other Jerbiton magi, which has caused him to grow cranky. He often complains that he is treated impolitely, not respected or given poor quality items despite his instructions. Although he is now forty-nine, he is not otherwise infirm and dances well. His wife died of gout eight years earlier. Nathaniel is still wealthy and has many connections with the gentry in Cheshire and Shropshire.

== Beryl ex Mercere, Redcap ==
Beryl is one of four Redcaps at Arbour Low Covenant in Derbyshire. She has been a friend of Sir Nathaniel’s for many years. Over the past year she has persisted in speaking up for Nathaniel, and grew impolite in blaming the others for his poor treatment. The other magi of Arbour Low find this tiresome. They have given her fewer important errands, and this spring when resources were assigned for magical defences Beryl was not given any. Since then, on her one trip to Schola Pythagoranis, she was attacked on the road. She feels the covenant unfairly put her at risk. On that same journey, Beryl heard a story about disappearances in a hazel copse in Shropshire in Broseley. According to the maps at Schola Pythagoranis, nothing has been noted about the place.

== Gentian ex Merinita (possibly of Voluntas) ==
Like his/her parens, a True Merinita who believes the House is dominated by faeries. Gentian personally hates them, although Gentian is like sunshine to plants. Gentian carries a curse for avenging a close friend, mistakenly struck down by a Seelie in a fight when Gentian was forced to go along. Gentian ‘will never taste food until touched by a living four-fingered wand.’ Her/his sodales have been no help, but Gentian refuses to return to the Faerie wood. Beryl knew of Gentian’s discontent, and sent a message to join them in exploring a lead for a new beginning.

== Laevis (Lightweight) ex Bjornaer of Riverborne Glade ==
Laevis has a beautiful voice, but has been reprimanded by his sodales for singing in church, drawing attention to himself! Particularly the other three Bjornaer fail to see his interest in the hymns. He has disobeyed rules to stay away from Warrington, so was sent to visit Arbour Low Covenant. Laevis is an Animal and Auram specialist. Good sense of humour, possibly Gentle Gift.

== Gabrielle ==
Imagonem specialist, local to Broseley. She is described as young with long strawberry-red hair, creamy freckled skin and very pretty. A separate party, the other characters know little about her.

== Brennan/Brynna ==
Companion. Red-headed Outlaw. Currently companion to Sir Nathaniel. Was a priest's nephew, made outlaw after wounding the Earl of Chester’s son in a brawl and escaping. Would not let the Earl of Chester’s son buy or take his flute. Always one to stand up to bullies. An excellent street fighter and a good hunter able to converse and read in Latin, Brynna/Brennan also has a sister living in Broseley.
