I am currently trying to clear down over 20,000 (twenty thousand) spam pages. My first attempt also deleted legitimate pages. It seems that some Ars Magica folks have been using our site to host info on their campaigns - that's absolutely fine and the kind of freeloading that I totally want to encourage.

Unspamming - Deleted Pages

Hello. I'm Andrew Oakley and I run this Wiki-based website. Please tell me if you have edited our site since 2023; let me know your real name, user name or one of the page names. Email: andrew@aoakley.com

I am currently (Aug-Sept 2025) trying to clear down over 20,000 (twenty thousand) spam pages. My first attempt also deleted legitimate pages. It seems that some Ars Magica folks have been using our site to host info on their campaigns - that's absolutely fine and the kind of freeloading that I totally want to encourage.

Please spread this message far and wide among the AM community, and anyone else you think might have edited our site.

Closing date for informing me is probably next weekend Sat 30 Aug 2025. At that point, deletion will be permanent (not strictly true, but an absolute pain to recover from backups).

Automatic new user creation is currently suspended as spam bots have worked out how to defeat our CAPTCHA. Email me direct andrew@aoakley.com if you want an account on our site.

The spam is problematic not only because of the size of the database (up from 200MB in 2023, to 1.1GB today) but due to traffic from search engines and AI bots trying to index the site. As a result it's been crashing (taking down all sites on my server) every 2-36 hours, requiring a manual restart.

My rule is: Any page changed by someone other than the following users since 1 Sept 2023 is probably spam:
Andrew Oakley ; CJ.23 ; Cjr.23 ; RenataExBonisagus ; James ; BBQ Jack ; Philipjenkins ; Harpoc ; Blackliger ;

This section will be removed sometime after 31 Aug 2025.

About

Grand Tribunal is a roleplaying, freeform and boardgame convention dedicated to the games and settings of Atlas Games

The convention is of special interest to fans of Ars Magica, and also Unknown Armies, Over the Edge, Rune and other Atlas Games rpgs. We also have some freeform larp games, but a large Ars Magica themed game suitable for everyone, and some smaller freeforms (in fact the first 'Nordic style' larp run in the UK took place at Grand Tribunal in 2007).

To add a game to the programme just email CJ.

Grand Tribunal is a small, intimate and friendly event, and while it attracts a number of Ars Magica and RPG authors, it is very accessible to even casual gamers.

This is a wiki-based website; we encourage attendees to add your own content - find out how.

Practical information

  • Tickets - how much it costs (quick answer: very cheap) and what's included
  • Venue - directions, maps, facilities, accommodation, transport and disabled access
  • Programme - session times, early arrival meet & greet, restaurant and pub times
  • Games - the individual games being run, who is running them, and how to sign up to play
  • People - staff, attendees - introduce yourself
  • Ethos - policies, guidelines, collections of thoughts
  • Charity Raffle- the famous raffle and prizes you can win
  • Retail - while we don't have a retailer present this year you can advance order for deliver to the convention

Archives and colleagues

Thanks to Pitt Murman for hosting the Grand Tribunal wiki from 2007-2012. From 2013, the site is hosted by Andrew Oakley.

Note that archives more than a year old, may be extremely terse, may be missing navigation, and definitely won't be editable. This is to mitigate against search bots and AI crawlers. The text should all be there, though.

Further credits

  • Thanks to Atlas Games for the Ars Magica game and letting us use their intellectual property
  • Thanks to Gas Green Community Centre for allowing us to use their venue
  • Thanks to Karl Trygve Kalleberg for use of the grandtribunal.org domain name.

Cheltenham Freeforms

This wiki is also host to Cheltenham Freeforms, a non-contact live-action roleplaying group who frequently use Gas Green as their venue. Many of the people who participate in Cheltenham Freeforms also participate in Grand Tribunal UK.
